Our Broader Appeal
Groups of discerning families or friends will adore this high-end holiday home whether they’re passionate about green issues or not. The owners’ vision included Three Glens being a place in which to encourage, teach, inspire and enjoy. That’s why this magnificent destination reaches out to a real diversity of people in order to enlighten or entertain:
- Corporate events: Three Glens represents an imaginative way to bond teams, thank employees or impress major clients. Obviously if you are in the renewable energy or related business this might be a perfect place to see things in real life action!
- Cooking: the large, open-plan kitchen is perfect for cookery classes which’ll include the preparation of locally-sourced food: beef and lamb from our farm; local pork; fish; game as well as eggs, fruit and vegetables from the owners’ gardens
- Cycling & Biking: the owners are committed cyclists. They rarely see a soul as they ride on often deserted roads most mornings. You can ride for 40miles, on the back roads, and not be passed by a car once!
- Mountain Biking: The land around Drumlanrig Castle has a number routes of championship standards, 20mins drive away. slightly further afield is the MTB mecca of The Forest of Ae, a 40minute drive away
- Weddings: close to Gretna Green, we can accommodate a modest-sized party and provide a memorable reception
- Shooting: there are great options to target clay pigeons, pheasants, geese & partridges around the region
- Fishing: stalk top quality trout in the clear waters of our own loch or ask us about the diverse local river beats on the Shinnel Water, the Nith and the Solway.
- Painting: using the abundance of natural light, express yourself with oils, watercolours or acrylics in contemporary or classic ways
- Art: Is a plenty in this neck of the woods, take a walk and a picnic up the Andy Goldsworthy Striding Arches. Visit the sculptures at Glenkiln, Shawhead by Henry Moore, Sir Jacob Epstein and Auguste Rodin. Take a drive to Kirkcudbright - Artists' Town or drive all over the county in May on the Spring Fling
- Gardens: Threave amongst others (http://www.visitdumfriesandgalloway.co.uk/see-do/gardens/)
- History: This is Covenanter country, as well as one of the homes of Burns, and many castles and fine homes: Drumlanrig Castle (20mins), Dumfries House (60mins), Caerlaverock Castle (40mins)
- Walking: Why not base yourself here if you’re heading for the forests, lochs and waterfalls of the Lowther, Galloway or Moffat hills, or the ambitious, 212-mile Southern Upland Way? If you are less ambitious the nearest pub is only 20mins walk away!
- Sewing: Mary’s mother-in-law is passionate about decorative cross stitching & will facilitate sewing groups in the stimulating light of Three Glens
- Festivals: Nearby we are lucky to have the Wigtown Book Festival, The Wickerman Festival and our very own Moniaive Folk Festival.
As you can see, there is plenty to do if ever tire of the view!
